Environment Secretary, George Eustice, has announced this week that there will be funding grants of up to £300,000 made available to farmers to help them boost their businesses and add extra value to their produce.
£30 million from the Farming Investment Fund (FIF) will allow farmers in England to purchase equipment to process, diversify and add value to their products after they have been harvested or reared.
There will also be a round of new Slurry Infrastructure grants, worth £13 million, will open later this autumn. These new grants are aimed to help livestock farmers in England to upgrade their slurry storage and nutrient management systems. This will in turn reduce water and air pollution from slurry. Guidance for applicants is now available on www.gov.uk
Dr Neil Hudson MP for Penrith and The Border said: “I am delighted that this funding has been announced that aims to provide support for farmers. I am proud to represent an area with agriculture at its heart. I really welcome this funding but will continue to urge the Government to help the farming industry, especially considering the escalating costs in fertiliser, fuel and animal feed. We need to support our farmers and agricultural industry and this is a step in the right direction.”
Environment Secretary, George Eustice, said: “We want to support the choices that farmers make for their businesses. We are spending around £600 million on farm-based innovation over the next three years, and the money announced today will support farmers across England with their investment plans, to improve their profitability and productivity.”
