Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, was delighted to welcome Year 12 Government and Politics A-Level students from Debden Park High School, Loughton, to Parliament to learn more about our democracy and their place within it.
The students began their day with a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster, gaining insight into the historic building and contemporary workings of the UK’s democratic system. Following the tour, they participated in a tailored democracy workshop at Parliament’s Education Centre, designed to deepen their understanding of how democracy functions in practice and how citizens can engage with it.
Dr Hudson then joined the students to speak about his role as their MP, explaining how he advocates for the interests of his constituents and contributes to shaping national policy as the Shadow DEFRA Minister. He shared his personal perspective on why he is an MP and how his values align with his political work.
The session concluded with a question and answer session, where students posed thoughtful questions on pressing local and national issues, including litter, potholes, and housing challenges for young people. Dr Hudson welcomed their enthusiasm and encouraged them to stay informed and involved in the democratic process.
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, said:
"It was a pleasure to meet such engaged students from Debden Park High School. Their curiosity and passion for tackling real-world issues was really heartening. Visits like these are a vital part of helping young people engage with our democracy and how they can have a voice in shaping their communities and the future of our country."
Dr Hudson remains committed to supporting educational opportunities that connect young people with the democratic process and looks forward to welcoming more schools from Epping Forest to Parliament in the future.
