Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, Environment Food and Rural Affairs Committee Member and the only vet in the House of Commons, appeared on national radio to raise awareness for his cross-party Committee's new report onto Marine Mammals which he instigated.
The veterinary MP triggered this EFRA Inquiry and spoke passionately about the need to demand better standards from the UK's trading partners which continue the barbaric practice of hunting whales and seals as well as cutting down on unnecessary marine mammal deaths as a by-product of fishing.
Dr Neil Hudson MP for Penrith and The Border, said:
"Thank you to Times Radio and John Pienaar for having me on to shine a light on our recent cross-party EFRA Committee report on Marine Mammals. It was a pleasure to speak about this critical issue.
"I firmly believe the UK can play a central role in stamping out whale hunting around the world by demanding better standards from our trading and fisheries partners. Beyond this we need better monitoring, reporting and prevention of bycatch - where beautiful seals, dolphins and other sea life are tragically snarled in fishing gear.
"This report is rightly gaining national and international attention and I am proud to have played a central role in instigating the inquiry and producing our findings. With global biodiveristy in crisis, the time to protect our ocean life is now."
