MP for Epping Forest, Dr Neil Hudson, has expressed his profound disappointment following the announcement of the closure of Lloyds bank in Debden, the only remaining bank in the area.
This decision has sparked widespread concern amongst residents and businesses about the loss of vital in-person banking services, particularly for elderly residents or those who struggle with mobility and may not be able to access alternative branches.
In response to this, Dr Hudson has taken swift action by writing to Lloyds Bank, LINK and the Government. LINK is the organisation responsible for carrying out assessments when changes are made to cash access.
Dr Hudson, MP for Epping Forest said:
“I am deeply concerned by the proposed closure of Lloyds in Debden and its impact on the community.
“For many people, this bank is a lifeline. Many folk rely on face-to-face banking and cash and may find it difficult to access other branches.
“This decision to close will threaten not only the financial independence of residents, but also the vibrancy of the high street. I am also worried about the implications for the staff members currently working at the branch.
“I have urged Lloyds Bank and LINK to reconsider their decisions and also for LINK to explore contingencies such as establishing a community hub bank in Debden. Additionally, I have called on the Government to look at this case and also work with banks to ensure that in-person services remain accessible on our high streets.”
