Dr Neil Hudson MP championed the Conservative Government's decisive handling of the economy in the Chamber today as inflation falls to its lowest point in years.
Today new ONS economy figures revealed that Rishi Sunak's Government has brought inflation back to normal levels, more than halving it to its lowest point since 2021. The rate of inflation is now 2.3 per cent, down from its peak of 11.1 per cent in 2022 - proof that the plan is working.
Speaking Afterwards, Dr Neil Hudson MP, said:
"Inflation across the world has made life tough for hardworking families over the past couple of years and so it is only right the Prime Minister has stepped up, making the tough decisions needed to tackle the issue head on.
"Today marked a defining moment in his premiership as we drove inflation down further to a low of 2.3 per cent, proving that only we Conservatives can be trusted to manage the economy soundly.
"There is more to do. But we cannot let Labour take the country back to square one, with their lack of a clear and consistent plan to run the economy.”
Under Rishi Sunak, inflation is back to normal, we are the fastest growing economy in the G7, wages around going up, taxes are going down and the triple lock is protected.
In an update on the economy in the Chamber, Dr Hudson said:
"Can I thank the Minister for the encouraging economic update? It is so disappointing when we get good news on the economy, it is talked down by the opposition. With inflation down to 2.3% it really shows that the economic plan is working from this Government.
"With National Insurance reductions, pensions increases, boosting jobs and a growing economy, does my Hon. Friend agree with me that it's only the Conservatives that can be trusted to manage the economy soundly?"
Treasury Minister, Bim Afolami, replied:
"I would agree with my Hon. Friend, and he's a fantastic champion for his constituents in this House, as everybody in this House knows. And the only thing I would add from what he has said is that this side of the House knows what it is to take responsible decisions and take them for the long term."
