Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, was delighted to welcome Lisa Walls of King Harold Business and Enterprise Academy, Waltham Abbey, to Parliament following her successful application to the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme.
The UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme is a three-day immersive training event run by the Parliamentary Education Service. The Programme provides participants with an understanding of our Parliamentary democracy and gives them the tools to engage with the work that takes place in Westminster. During the Programme, attendees have the opportunity to hear from a diverse range of speakers, including Members of Parliament and those working in key roles across the estate. Teachers then return to their schools to enhance and develop their students’ and colleagues’ understanding of Parliament and our democracy.
Dr Hudson met with Ms Walls during the Programme to hear more about the course. They also discussed issues currently facing students at King Harold Academy, such as transport, and how they can encourage further engagement with young people across Epping Forest.
Lisa Walls, UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador from King Harold Academy said:
"I feel so lucky to have been selected for the Parliamentary Teacher Ambassador Programme.
“I never thought I would have this sort of opportunity. I have been given plenty of information and advice on how to get young people engaged in politics.
“I'm sure that once I put this into practice, King Harold Academy will be buzzing with conversation about issues that affect the students and the people of Waltham Abbey. I can't wait to take everything I've learnt back to the staff and students that I work with so as community we can make positive change.”
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, added:
“I am absolutely thrilled that Lisa was selected to become an Ambassador.
“Having recently visited King Harold Academy, I know that how excited the young folk there will be to hear about Lisa’s experiences on the course and find out more about our parliamentary democracy.”
