Dr Neil Hudson MP welcomed news that the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board has been allocated £6.42 billion for the 2024/25 financial year. This is part of this Government’s record of investing a record amount in the NHS.
Dr Neil Hudson MP said:
"£6.42 billion is an incredible figure that will hugely improve healthcare in our part of the world. Investing more in the NHS than any Government in history, Rishi Sunak's premiership has heralded more nurses, GP staff, and cancer specialists on the frontline in Cumbria.
"More investment, means more frontline clinicians which means better health outcomes for local folk.
"I am delighted to welcome these Conservative Government measures to help level up healthcare across the nation."
More than seven million tests, checks and scans have been delivered by Community Diagnostic Centres since July 2021, making it easier for people to get the care they need and helping to cut waiting lists. Such centres are open across England . The Government has delivered the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, a modern oncology hospital with the equipment and facilities to comply with national service specifications, transforming cancer care services for patients across North Cumbria
Rishi Sunak's administration is doing everything in its power to get more clinicians on the front line so we can get more people the care they need when they need it. In North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which serves Penrith and The Border, there were 36 more full-time-equivalent doctors and 136 more nurses in September 2023 than there were in September 2022. This is local delivery on this Government’s commitment to recruit 50,000 more nurses.
On top of this, Government is making it easier to get a GP appointment and end the 8am rush, by investing in technology and recruiting more staff to look after patients. In the North East and North Cumbria integrated care system there were 155 more full-time equivalent GPs in December 2023 than in December 2019 and 1,823,723 more appointments in general practice in the 12 months to December 2023 than in the 12 months to December 2019 – helping us to hit our target of 50 million more GP appointments.
In Penrith and The Border there were 70 more full-time-equivalent direct patient care staff working in general practice in September 2023 than there were in September 2019. This shows the Conservatives' commitment to getting more staff into the primary care workforce right across the country.
Each integrated care system receives a capital allocation for locally determined priority capital projects and the maintenance of their estate: the North East and North Cumbria ICB was allocated over £187 million in 2023/24.
