Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, was invited to Roxane Eden Valley, a Cumbrian mineral bottle plant producing the Aqua Pura brand in the heart of his constituency.
Based in Armathwaite, the team have been bottling water at source for more than 30 years. Filtered through the Eden Valley’s mineral-rich rocks, Aqua Pura is one of the UK’s fastest-growing brands, but has stayed true to the beauty of Cumbria’s natural environment with sustainability at its core.
Aqua Pura 500ml bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic and our shrinkwrap is made from 50% recycled plastic. They have also implemented new environmentally friendly caps which stay with the bottle so cannot be easily lost to nature.
Dr Hudson – who authored a report onto the UK’s plastic waste alongside Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee colleagues – was proud to champion a local business at the forefront of sustainability.
Tragically the report found that the UK exports around 60% of the over 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste it creates. Turkey is the main destination for this waste where it is far too often dumped or burned which damages the environment and human health. That is why Dr Hudson was so keen to meet with the Armathwaite team and hear all about their recycling solutions for water.
Dr Hudson was given a tour of the production facility to see the ongoing investment in the site and an exclusive look at their brand new automated warehouse.
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, said:
“With global temperatures rising, businesses must champion sustainability and the Roxane team are a shining example of how to do this; delivering on consumer priorities and boosting the local economy.
“Thank you to the team for showing me around and keep up the good work!”
A spokesperson for Aqua Pura said:
“We were honoured to host Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, at the home of Aqua Pura in Eden Valley, Cumbria. The visit provided an opportunity for Dr Neil Hudson to witness the remarkable improvements made at our water bottling production site and the unveiling of our state-of-the-art automated warehouse.”
The Aqua Pura brand has upheld a long-term partnership with Visit Lake District and Cumbria Tourism, recognising the merit in championing other local businesses and supporting the local economy.
