Veterinary MP Dr Neil Hudson is urging farmers and land managers to take part in a national soil health survey being undertaken by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, on which he sits.
Amid a national context of unclear soil health, the Committee is launching a survey so farmers can share their experiences of improving soil health. The results of the survey will feed into the Committee’s inquiry into soil health which is analysing how the government is supporting farmers to prevent further soil degradation and restore soils across the country.
Dr Neil Hudson MP said:
"At the heart of our Committee's work is gathering evidence from those directly impacted by policy decisions so in order to hear from as many people as possible we have launched a survey into the nation's soil health.
"Soil health is crucial for agricultural production, food security and protecting the environment. These are all vital issues to our nation's future and so I would really encourage anyone eligible to take part in our survey and help bolster soil health for generations to come."
So far, the inquiry has seen Dr Hudson quiz soil experts, visit best practice hubs and unearth innovative solutions to the crisis facing British soils.
If you are a farmer or land manager and would like to help the work of the Committee by taking part in the survey, press here. Further details can also be found on the inquiry website. The survey will remain open until 21st August 2023.
