Penrith and The Border MP, Dr Neil Hudson, banged the drum for rural employment when he attended the Eden Job and Skills Fair in Penrith.
Organised by Penrith Jobcentre and hosted in association with Eden District Council at Eden Rural Foyer, the event saw people come to discover what opportunities await them locally. From college and school leavers to refugees, there were a wide range of attendees looking for their next step, be it a job, training course, apprenticeship, or volunteering opportunity.
There was particular focus on getting young people into training and employment backed by the foyer’s Youth Hub.
This fair came in association with Way to Work, a national push to help more people benefit from the record number of vacancies in the current job market. The Government has already invested more than £400 billion into the Plan for Jobs, and is working to help thousands retains, build new skills, and get back to work.
Dr Hudson discussed ongoing employment schemes with organisers and jobs coaches before meeting with a host of organisations boosting skills and jobs within Penrith and The Border.
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, said: “It was really heartening to see all the excellent opportunities on offer here in Cumbria. It was particularly beneficial for our talented youngsters to be able to see the great career progression available closer to home.
“I must thank, the Penrith Jobcentre for hosting the event, and all the organisations who attended. To see the Government’s investment in action on the ground and getting people into employment is great and helps me tremendously. It informs my work in Westminster and helps me make sure policy is working for my constituents.”
Attending organisations included Center Parcs, Cumbria County Council, B&M, Greggs, UCLan, Newton Rigg Ltd, Mach Recruitment, Way to Work, Eden District Council, the Federation of Small Businesses, Cumbria Tourism, Riverside Recruitment, Community Integrated Care, Inspira, Christians Against Poverty, Eden Valley Clearance, Cumbria CVS, Ingeus UK, Westmorland Family, Viberoptic, and Barnardo’s.
