Dr Neil Hudson MP for Penrith and The Border joined District, City and County Councillors in Houghton to support the Keep Britain Tidy Great British September Clean, which ran between 11- 27th September.
The group included Councillors Gareth Ellis, Elizabeth Mallinson, Fiona Robson and John Mallinson. Equipped with litter-pickers and bin bags and working to Government Covid-19 safety guidelines, the group set off around the streets of Houghton in the north of the constituency.
Dr Hudson was pleased to experience the strong community spirit in the area and spoke to residents about the continuous work they do to keep the streets clean all year round.
Of the litter pick, Councillor Gareth Ellis, Cumbria County Councillor and Carlisle City Councillor for Belah ward said, “I think it is important that we all try to play a part and contribute to keeping the areas we live in clean and tidy”
After the event, Dr Hudson commented “It was great to get out and about in Houghton with the Councillors who also represent the constituents of this area, as part of the Great British September Clean. We are in such a beautiful part of the world and we all can do our little bit to keep our communities tidy.”
