Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest, has joined fellow Conservative MPs presenting the ‘Keep Winter Fuel’ campaign ahead of tomorrow’s Budget to the Labour government.
Around 16,029 pensioners in the Epping Forest constituency may lose up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payment after Labour MPs voted to end the Winter Fuel Payment scheme earlier this year. The ‘Keep Winter Fuel’ campaign, supported by Dr Hudson, urges the Government to re-consider their proposal to scrap the scheme, following warnings that pensioners may be forced to choose between heating and eating this winter.
The previous Conservative Government uprated the basic State Pension, new State Pension, and Pension Credit minimum guarantee in line with September 2023 average earnings growth, in addition to delivering around 11.9 million Winter Fuel Payments and Pensioner Cost of Living Payments to older people across the UK in December 2023.
Epping Forest MP, Dr Neil Hudson said:
“I remain deeply concerned about the impact this punitive policy will have on pensioners both across the country and right here in Epping Forest. Pensioners have worked hard all their life and deserve dignity in retirement.
“I voted against this punitive policy in September, and I will continue to support vulnerable pensioners through the winter months as best as I can.”
Dr Hudson is a longstanding advocate for the Winter Fuel Payment scheme. More here https://www.neilhudson.org.uk/news/dr-neil-hudson-vote-against-labours-plan-cut-winter-fuel-payments-epping-forest-pensioners
