Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border has welcomed £4,343,000 of central Government funding that has been allocated to Cumbria's two councils for energy efficiency upgrades to homes.
Having repeatedly campaigned for the Government to give more support to those with homes off the gas grid; Dr Hudson is urging local eligible people to take advantage of the funding which could see individuals granted £38,000 to fund energy efficiency measures.
A range of measures are available to eligible residents, including loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and clean heat measures such as Air Sourced Heat Pumps.
Local authorities, providers of social housing and charities have been awarded a huge injection of £630 million nationally as part of Round 2 of the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2).
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, said:
"Rural areas like ours have a disproportionate number of homes off the gas grid. This funding will support people in these homes to save money and reduce their carbon footprint at the same time.
"An excellent measure from the Government, and one I thoroughly hope people will take advantage of."
