Late last week Dr Neil Hudson visited two vaccination centres that are at the frontline of the vaccine rollout in Cumbria. Dr Hudson visited the vaccination centre at Penrith Hospital and the new Large Vaccination Centre at the Auction Mart.
These two centres have been vaccinating residents of Penrith and The Border in a safe and efficient manner. There has been significant progress to date, with 47,941 Penrith and the Border constituents having at least one vaccine and in north Cumbria 178,464 first vaccines and 52,302 second vaccines (primary care, hospital hubs, community pharmacy, the vaccination centre) have been administered.
Commenting about the visit Dr Hudson said:
“It was humbling and uplifiting to come to the vaccination centres at Penrith Hospital and at the Auction Mart. I would like to give my sincere thanks to all the staff and volunteers at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and the North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group for their fantastic efforts with vaccine delivery. More slots are being added via the National Booking Service for the Penrith site all the time and it is because of their efforts we are on track for all adults to have been offered their first vaccine by the end of July.
Lockdown is by no means over and I urge caution as people return to pubs, restaurants and other activities. Until everyone has received two doses of a vaccine the best way to combat the spread of the virus is to adhere to social distancing measures, wash your hands regularly and wear a face covering where required.”
