Dr Neil Hudson MP has warmly welcomed the publication of a new Countryside Code. Natural England has published an updated version of the Code today centred around enjoying the countryside and environment in a respectful way.
Dr Hudson commented:
“The countryside and Cumbria are almost synonymous and as lockdown restrictions get lifted we must ensure that locals as well as tourists afford the countryside the respect it deserves. There has been a large increase in the number of people taking part in outdoor activities such as walking, running and cycling and this is hugely positive to see. However, with larger influxes of people taking in the beautiful countryside in this part of the world brings risks of increased detritus and rubbish.
Natural England and others have done a brilliant job in updating the Code and its main themes of enjoying the environment in a safe and considerate way remain vital if people are to continue to experience what nature has to offer.”
Rural Affairs Minister Lord Gardiner said:
“With so many people visiting the countryside, the Countryside Code has never felt more relevant. Crucially it now covers all green spaces, waterways, the coast and even parks in towns and cities, so that everyone, as we lift restrictions, can enjoy a greener future.
I’d like to thank Natural England and all the many stakeholders who helped shape this updated version. It is an excellent guide and I urge visitors to nature – old and new - to follow its advice.”
