Member of Parliament for Epping Forest Dr Neil Hudson pledged his support for Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Faster, Fairer, Better’ campaign to tackle inequalities in the fight against prostate cancer, as part of their event he attended in the Houses of Parliament.
Prostate Cancer UK’s Faster, Fairer, Better campaign has highlighted that at present, flaws with the system of research, diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer are creating inequalities for black men, men with a history of prostate cancer in the family and men from deprived areas, who are at the highest risk of harm from prostate cancer.
The ‘Faster, Fairer, Better’ campaign event in Parliament proposes reforms to the system such as increasing MRI capacity and quality for better diagnoses, providing information to men about testing in the highest risk groups, and promoting Prostate Cancer UK’s TRANSFORM research trial to improve prostate cancer screening.
Dr Neil Hudson attended the event to show his support for the campaign to end inequalities in prostate cancer, hearing from men who have faced prostate cancer, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders with expertise in the issues facing men with prostate cancer.
Supporting Prostate Cancer UK’s campaign, Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Epping Forest said:
“I was proud to support Prostate Cancer UK's 'Faster, Fairer, Better, Campaign in Parliament. Faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer is the key to saving lives and reducing inequalities that too many men are facing.
“I am committed to working with Prostate Cancer UK to fight for the improvements to diagnosis, testing and research that are desperately needed.
“With Sir Chris Hoy’s bravery very much in our minds, this campaign is so important.”
Dr Neil Hudson MP has been a champion for the promotion of research and treatments to tackle cancer throughout his time in Parliament. Earlier this month, he supported Blood Cancer UK’s UK Blood Cancer Action Plan report at their event in Parliament and wrote to the Health Secretary about the report’s Non-Specific Symptom Pathway for unsuspected cancers.
He has also shown his support for groups including Breast Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK, Radiotherapy UK and the Less Survivable Cancers Taskforce.
He has also been working to ensure that his constituents in Epping Forest are supported with the cancer care they need, securing a recent campaign win by securing the Government’s guarantee for a Community Diagnostic Centre at St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping. The Community Diagnostic Centre, which had been previously under threat by Labour’s review of capital spending projects committed to by the previous Conservative Government, will mean the introduction of new technologies and vital tests, speeding diagnoses and ultimately saving lives.
