Dr Neil Hudson MP has secured an inspection of Galley Hill Road and Breach Barns Lane following an outpouring of concern from engaged local citizens about the routes' conditions.
The routes provide exclusive access to Galley Hill where many people live and work providing them with near-daily upset while trying to traverse potholes, flooding and a patchwork of repairs.
Having secured an inspection by Essex Highways to assess what immediate repairs might be necessary; Dr Hudson has also written to Essex County Council Chief Executive, Gavin Jones, to ask for high personal oversight of the issue as well as the responsible Cabinet Member, Councillor Tom Cunningham (Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport).
Dr Neil Hudson MP for Epping Forest said:
"I must thank everyone who brought this to my attention. Indeed conscientious and engaged local citizens like those who made contact are the backbone of any functioning democracy.
"For those who rely on these routes to deliver medicine, meals and post I can only imagine the stress and upset that is being caused. And it is important for emergency access. That is why I am taking this incredibly seriously and will endeavour to secure results for them.
"Urgent work must commence to make the road safer and more efficient that is why I am working with the Council to make sure people see their taxes put to good use. While I cannot guarantee such a project is completed overnight, I will keep pushing until the roads are fixed.
“I also really welcome that the Conservative-led Essex County Council has just announced £25 million of re-prioritised funding to maintain and repair roads and pavements over the next few months.”
