I am deeply concerned about the situation regarding Newton Rigg. It is disappointing news that Askham Bryan has requested the Further Education Commissioner to undertake a formal Local Provision Needs Analysis. Newton Rigg provides fantastic training in a variety of important areas that develop the skills needed by people working in our rural economy. It is a great way of developing the skills of our young people locally. I will be engaging with stakeholders and the Government to try to secure a positive future for Newton Rigg. Penrith needs Newton Rigg. Cumbria needs Newton Rigg. The UK rural economy needs Newton Rigg.
